I am writing this letter not just as a former teacher (Mariposa Middle School), principal (Yosemite Valley School), and previous School Board member, but also as a concerned everyday (retired) citizen of Mariposa.  I believe in the power of strong, common-sense leadership, which is why I’m eager and proud to formally endorse Michael Masuda for Congress representation for (our) 5th Congressional District.

I have been a member of this community for over 30 years, and I’ve seen and experienced many of the challenges we face: wildfires, housing, healthcare, education, transportation, etc. And I feel that this election is not just about a single policy; it’s about choosing a representative who understands the struggles of the everyday people living in this district, and who will (when elected) go to work on behalf of our local communities.

I have met and talked with Mr. Masuda; and to me, it seems that Michael has a clear and compelling vision for our future. He has a plan to address the growing threats of wildfires and the affordability crisis. But what truly sets Masuda apart is his integrity and collaborative spirit. I feel quite confident that Michael will go to Washington to represent all of us, not just special interests.  

An engineer (who has focused on new technologies to keep our troops safe), Masuda is not a politician per se, but he is running as a Democrat. However, he’s not so much pushing “blue vs red” but rather he hopes to “stop the divisiveness & work together to get stuff done!”  Raised in a rural community, he believes in “hard work, integrity, giving back to community, and treating people with respect.”

When the 6-5 Fire forced my family to evacuate, he was there to support us. That evening, he was focused on supporting the people of Chinese Camp in need. We worked with incredible partners locally to organize a fundraiser that brought in over $125,000 to support those victims. His eagerness to go to work for the people in my community reflects the quality of a real Congressman. Michael Masuda is the public servant we deserve, and I am proud to endorse him.
